Catalogues, Modules, Sites...?

Frog Language! – Best Practice for Course creation.

How the learner’s perspective influences the content creation and structure:

Users Perspective:

Presented with their Learning, a Collection, comprised of Courses, that the learner will work through, some maybe mandatory others optional. The Catalogue is all the courses (Modules) that a learner has access to, categorised into generic groups. (These can be categorised using keywords)

Courses are made from Modules. A Module is a grouping of resources that can include, Files, content, Links Scorm, Quizzes, Tasks, barriers, and Sites.

Sites, are internal freestanding websites that can be arranged across pages and enable you to add content including files, animations audio video etc.

A Site is just one possible component part of a Module:

Best Practice

  • Decide on a format for the sites you want to incorporate into your modules, create a Template for consistency and speed.
  • Create the sites you want to use, and once complete, In Settings set the Site to Presentation mode.

When the user accesses a site in a Module, they will navigate the site content using the Next button rather than presented with pages to click on.

When constructing a Module and adding a Site you are creating a ‘Copy’ of your site.

The master site stays in the Frog Drive and it’s a ‘copy’ of that site, that is placed in the Module.

Both act independently of each other. Updating one, will not update the other. Ideally make all your changes before adding a site to a module.

Advantages:

You always have a master copy that you can use when versioning your modules or courses. If you want to ‘revert’ that copy back to the original, you can remove the copy from the module, and add the site again from the original.
