Background

In 2017, Highfield was commissioned by the UK’s National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) to roll out ACT Awareness eLearning across the UK.  Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) eLearning was focused on identifying and alerting to potential terrorist threats and was designed to raise awareness in places where there are large numbers of public users.

Public places such as shopping centres, football grounds and concert arenas would all benefit from having trained personnel onsite and public workers such as those with St John Ambulance and Emergency Services personnel would carry greater awareness into the field.

Highfield partners with Frog

Highfield had already produced content on counter terrorism awareness.  However, the scale of the ACT Awareness eLearning project led Highfield to seek a technical partner, to host the training materials at scale and cope with the demand of thousands of users.  One of the main drivers was the ability of the platform to deal with spikes in demand, which was known to be a potentially expensive thing to achieve.

Frog was chosen to host the ACT Awareness eLearning content.  Practised in managing large-scale projects, Frog would monitor and maintain the system, take care of back-up and deliver a first-class user experience.

The Frog delivery mechanism also extended to reporting, ensuring that operational and strategic reporting was made available to both Highfield and, ultimately, to NaCTSO.

Making a difference

The ACT Awareness eLearning portal was launched with a prominent campaign and learners were able to access Awareness training from any device, anytime, anywhere. The campaign and the eLearning programme raised awareness significantly.

Since the launch of the eLearning portal, over 700,000 people have successfully completed the training.

Delivering rewarding learner experiences

The combination of Highfield’s content and Frog technology has meant that the reach of the ACT Awareness eLearning has been extensive, and learners have been richly engaged.

Learners can access the content in any way they choose and are guided intuitively through a series of modules.  Successful completion of an automated test at the end will lead to certification for every learner.  Certificates can be held on the platform or downloaded for the user’s own purposes.

The ACT Awareness eLearning portal is a great example of how Frog can work with rich content providers to bring content to life and deliver at scale.
